Club History The Alaskan Malamute Club of Gauteng, South Africa (TAMC) is currently the only KUSA affiliated Alaskan Malamute Club in South Africa and has as its main goal the betterment of the breed and asserts that its membership has an obligation to the Alaskan Malamute breed to preserve the magnificence of the breed without exploiting it. To that end the Club was established and those goals are kept in mind as we expand into each new area of involvement with our breed. The Club's membership is actively involved in all those facets of the Breed that contribute to these goals and is a non-profit club. The TAMC has been in existence for over 24 years now and has been affiliated to The Kennel Union of South Africa (KUSA) for over 20 years. Many of you will already know of the club’s existence and some of you might even be members. Club Profile Those areas of interest that the Club pursues with active involvement of its membership include conformation, obedience, working sled dogs, genetics, hereditary problems, conformation, agility and obedience Specialties, brochures, Club awards, local Club affiliation, novelties and club paraphernalia, a Registry of Merit. We also have various Photo Galleries for outstanding working dogs of the past and present and a link to download the various newsletters for club members only. Purpose The purpose of this site is to try and share some of our experiences with you and we also to try to encourage more Malamute owners to become club members and participate in some of the events we share in. Your initial reaction might be “well I love my Mal but I really don’t have the time or inclination to get involved in a club”. I think most of us these day are pushed for time and many of us aren’t as involved in club activities as we once were, but the fact of the matter is that the KUSA affiliated breed club is important to the future well being of the Malamute breed in South Africa and as you will appreciate, a club is only a club if it has a membership. Fees Annual membership fees are only R50 per year or R100 for a family membership. We also offer a life-time membership at once off fee of R400 per individual. In addition to looking after the well being of the breed we also run a rescue scheme for Malamutes and this can be costly as we need to kennel, inoculate as well as neuter and spay rescue dogs and therefore funds derived from club memberships go a long way in helping in this regard. We therefore invite you to follow the link and you will find a letter from our Club Chairperson, an Application to Join The Alaskan Malamute Club of Gauteng and secondly a General Questionnaire asking for details of your dogs. If you are already a member or even if you don’t want to become a member we would like to invite you to return the General Questionnaire, as we would like to ensure our database and thereby gain an accurate picture of how many Malamutes there are in SA.
We publish the TAMC Newsletter that is available through membership in the TAMC. Non-members may subscribe to the TAMC Newsletter at a subscription rate of R40.00 per year. Our Newsletter is published every three months which devotes itself to Club information, articles of an educational nature, announcements of winning, working, agility and conformation titles, sledding, general medical information and other fun articles.
We encourage membership to the TAMC as a means to pursue your interest in the breed. To apply for membership you will need to have 1 sponsors who have been members of TAMC for at least 5 years and who has known you for a period of time. The application may require an endorsement from an TAMC member who has visited your home.
